Synergy Marine (M) Sdn Bhd Pioneers Malaysia's First LNG-Powered Vessel — A Historic Milestone for the Nation's Maritime Industry

Malaysia is set to achieve a defining milestone in its maritime history as Synergy Marine (M) Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with MTCMS Design Sdn Bhd and Shin Yang Shipping Corporation Berhad, embarks on the design, construction, and delivery of the country's very first LNG dual fuel-powered vessel — to be built entirely on Malaysian shores.

This landmark collaboration between three distinguished Malaysian companies marks a transformative step forward for the nation's offshore and maritime industry. Synergy Marine (M) Sdn Bhd, an integrated ship management brand with extensive experience in marine and offshore operations, is spearheading the initiative alongside MTCMS Design Sdn Bhd and Shin Yang Shipping Corporation Berhad through their shipbuilding subsidiary, Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd.

The new vessel will be made available to service a wide spectrum of global oil and gas companies, offering the significant operational and environmental advantages that come with LNG technology. The vessel is designed to fully comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations while also delivering meaningful reductions in fuel consumption across all operational profiles.

Dato' Roslan Ahmad, Managing Director of Synergy Marine, highlighted the environmental and operational significance of adopting LNG fuel engine systems, noting that the technology greatly reduces emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter. "With our vast experience in marine and offshore business and operations coupled with extensive knowledge, wide working network and strong capability, caring for the environment is one of our core values, and we are taking the proactive step to lead and pioneer the green technology in offshore support vessels sector," he stated.

The vessel is designed with impressive specifications to meet the demanding requirements of global offshore operations. With a length of 76.8 metres and a breadth of 19 metres, the vessel will feature a generous deck capacity of 600 square metres and will be fully equipped with a state-of-the-art LNG dual fuel engine system — reinforcing Malaysia's capability to produce world-class, environmentally conscious marine vessels domestically.

The keel laying ceremony is scheduled for January 2019, with the vessel's completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2020. Upon delivery, the vessel will be made available for contract charter to oil and gas contractors and will be deployed for operations in the global market, further extending Synergy Marine's reach and impact on the international offshore services stage.
